This year, I got the best birthday present ever. Plane tickets to go visit my best friend in Freiburg for the weekend.
So, in the end of November got to discover a gorgeous new town and spend the weekend surrounded by awesome people, laughing & eating enormous amounts of delicious food. Hahaha

Here are a few shots from that trip, they don’t do it justice.

The next day, because the burgers didn’t fill us quite enough, we went for ginormous Duners. Cholesterol FTW!

It was my 25th birthday last November. One quarter of a century. Feel old… or maybe not. Haha

Decided to spend the day surrounded by good food, great friends and a whole lot of…

After having lunch with my mother, went for tea (or hot chocolate for me) & scones with H.

… like the addictive power of the Iphone. Hahaha (é tudo dor de cotovelo obviamente!)

At dinner, went for pizza. Delicious one of the sort.

All you needed was a toothpick and you were ready to go!

Some people enjoyed the toothpicks way too much…

… which apparently not everyone enjoyed. Haha

Then we moved to a second location. I’d try to describe it, but my words wouldn’t make justice of this place. Let’s just say it was epic!

Croatia Croatia… Have I told you lately how much I love you? Well I do. There, I’ve said it, I’m in love with Croatia - it’s gorgeous, calm & clean. What’s not love?

Anyway, back in May I went back to Croatia for another wonderful week. This time it was Sarah who tagged along. It wasn’t very long until she was officially adopted by S., who stated we were both her sisters and that we both lived in Conrad’s house. So that was determined from the get go, and there went the three sisters.

Zagreb:

Massages, Personal Chef, Gorgeous Apartment, Chauffeur… This is the good life, huh? Hell yeah.

Apart from that I had some family time and crashed a kid’s party (that’s just how I roll, hardcore!).

S. is three and is obsessed with taking pictures, with the blackberry or digital camera, she rocks them all! Isto promete…

What I love the most about film (vs. digital), apart from the quality & overall look of it all, are the surprises you get from it. When you finally get your film developed and see all the shots you forgot you took & for a few seconds you get to relive those moments…

Anyway, I had this film in my beach bag for about 4 years, totally forgot my lomo camera was lost in there… so yeah, big time surprises… made me laugh :).

They are nothing special, just forgotten little pieces of summer…

Back in February, we traveled up North during “Carnaval” to visit Sarah, who’d just abandoned me by moving there (snif).

We started off by having a Porto cocktail with a spectacular view.

Then experienced the best Carnaval ever (suck it Carnaval de Torres!) after I discovered the power of coffee (yeah, it took me this long to figure it out…)!

Next day, before leaving, we had the nicest coffee ever (for me who doesn’t particularly enjoy coffee, for true coffee lovers/addicts not so much I guess … mariquices!)

Short but sweet trip – good times & great friends, what else could a person ask for? <3

Honey… I’m baaack.

After sometime away, I’m back with many developed films to scan. Fun!

I finally shot through my first Diana mini film… and well… FAIL. Ahahah. I really need to get myself a flash!

Anyway, here are the few acceptable shots out of the bunch. Mostly random shots so don’t expect a coherent story surrounding them.

Back in December I finally finished my much loved masters degree (ahahah) with a bang (I caused quite an impression!) so I went out to celebrate with my friends and had some victory pizza.

Some time later (I’m confused about dates) Susana had a housewarming party, we ate cake with shinny candles, drank wine and heard the neighbors complain.

Yes, I know I should post first all the photos I took from December 2009 to July 2010. But, I really don’t feel like it… My blog, my rules.

Here are my 2010 summer photos. Spent most of the summer writing my thesis, so there isn’t a lot (I think shooting my laptop screen over and over again wouldn’t be that appealing). I only had two breaks, the first when me & J. went to the seaside with my parents and S. <3, in the beginning of July. And the second on the last day of hot weather in Portugal, during which I happened to host a Pool Party for my friends.

But before we get to that, let me introduce you to my current boss: M.

She’s the sweetest thing alive, most of the time!

Algarve 2010

During our time at the sea side S. discovered ice cream… Let’s just say it was a revelation!

She also discovered sharing…

But mostly she discovered she was always the center of attention!

And then they were gone, and I was left with my thesis. So for the next two months I procrastinated a lot, worked a little, went out to lunch a couple of times…

… cooked a little…

… and finally, I organized a pool party for my friends.

Meats, Fish, Shopska Salata & a lot of Sangria.

After a few drinks, experimentations with the swim ring started…

And then we ate some chocolate fondue & and home made popsicles.

All in all, it was a great afternoon between friends <3

After that, autumn came.
I hanged out at David’s, tried to shoot his birds, failed.
So I shot his garden instead.

Then came Halloween, J. scared some children…

I went to the park with my boss :)

And then last weekend we had some family fun :)

From Paris with love…

Rainy weather makes me wish I was in Paris.

Last year, around this time, I went there for a few days to visit D. and R. It was nice to go back after all this time.

It was a rather gastronomic journey. Actually it seems my whole life revolves around food – eating food, thinking about food, making food, looking at food, making plans around food, etc.

So, having that in mind, I started my weekend by eating the best ice cream in world – Bertillon. I’m not kidding, it is truly divine, like nothing you’ve ever tasted.

The next day we just walked around breathing in the city and going to some freaky taxidermy store. Strange strange, though I’d fancy a few butterflies myself… Maybe one day.

Some other stores just opt for live animals instead :)

The next day (or was it the same day? I’m not quite sure anymore) we went to have lunch at La Durée. Hmmm :)

The next day I was in for a real treat, a true algerien lunch <3

All the food came directly from Algeria and it was wonderfully cooked by A.’s mum.

My first macarons. They were quite nice… I thought I wouldn’t like them, felt bad for not having tried one at La Durée. Next time I guess.

R. likes to sleep even more than I do, and that’s saying something :)

D.’s appartment is lovely and full of beautiful things

The next day I went to my old neighbourhood… for old times sake.

Zagreb Part II

It’s been a year since I posted anything on here. Ouch. That’s a LOT…

Anyway, I’m going to try to correct that in the next few weeks, not that anyone is following or expecting anything, but hey, just play along.

Croacia! Croacia!

In July, J. and I went to Croacia.

We got there "early" and our ride hadn't arrived yet, so we waited in the garden in front of the airport (wtf?!?) and almost opened a bottle of wine we brought as a gift...

I like guides: country guides, city guides, any type of guide. Apparently so does my dad...

The day after we arrived in Croacia we travelled down south to a town called Opatija

We went to a nice little beach with beds and water at 26ºC = heaven!

Baby S. is getting the taste for it early! Eheheh. She'll fit nicely with us! (Ps: No worries, no beer or any type of alcool was given to her, we were just pretending... She wanted it though!)

They were giving tango lessons at the hotel.

And then we went back to Zagreb <3. The kind of city i'd like to live in: pretty, clean & calm.

Ahhhhh.... wedding photos... so... lovely...

And I didn't take a photo of the next couple of shots: bride and groom, standing on each side of the tree, looking away and holding hands on the tree trunk... awwwww *puke*

After Zagreb, we headed down to Plitvicka Jezera, a national park with some gorgeous lakes inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The colour of the water was incredible!

Bathing wasn't allowed but I didn't resist, I dipped my feet in a little...

We stayed at Leonor's house, her family owns this really old house that I fell in love with.

It’s been a while and I have very little to show really. One single film shot since October 2008. I know, shame on me. Internship and Uni are keeping me quite occupied. Life’s good though. A lot going on, a lot on my mind, but overall all is good.

So back in October J. and me went to Porto for a couple of days, and visited his old family house in Grijó. Gorgeous and ginormous!

After two very short days of great sights, great food & great wine, we came back.

A few weeks later, we went to Ericeira for an awesome "Mariscada", basically all you can eat seafood for 18 euros.

In January, my baby sister came for the first time to Portugal. As a christmas present, I fully decorated her room, I think It turned out alright...

Finally had some time off to scan the negatives from February... Yeah, i'm kind of behind on that. Still have two films to develop from march and april. But that will have to wait unfortunetly.

In February I had a well deserved week of holidays, so Sarah, her friend André & I decided to go spend a weekend in Porto, which I had never visited before, so that was nice. Also, it was the first big trip in my brand new car, Vassil! :D He did very well.

The best 'francesinhas' in Porto. Yummy. The tiny restaurant only had 3 tables and one guy preparing the food! He sure knew how to, it was delicious!

Back in november I got a little present for myself on my birthday: the Diana +.

So i've been having some fun with it, these are the first shots done with this beauty.

This little toy camera knows what it's doing huh? Well, I like it.

January and February were the months from hell: studying, exams, reading endless articles, writing papers and getting frustrated. That was about it.

The stupid anti-smoking law made that all the ashtrays (and associated garbage bins) ended up in one single hallway. Very clever...

However those months weren't all that bad (especially the second half of February, but that will come later) got to spend some time with my friends every once in awhile (after all, we were all in the same shit).

Tested my new 50mm 1.8 lense with him. I'm quite pleased with the results.

My father and step-mum came over for a couple of weeks in January so I got to cook for them, yey!

So, the 3 months from hell are almost over (3 days left! wiii). So i'm in a procrastination mood.
Then, 8 days of holidays, and it starts all over again. <3
But for now i'm trying not to think about it too much, otherwise i'll pretty much go insane!

A couple of days ago I went to the farewell party of 3 of my friends: Sarah, Peter and Ines.

Portrait of a Band

Tried out a new film and a couple of my uncle's lenses last month, and this is what resulted of that. Also trying out my new negative scanner (thank you Daddy! :D), so I don't really know what I'm doing yet. I just know it's a pain in the a** scanning film!

Anyway, I'm here today to present to you the greatest bunch of people in the portuguese music business! I would even say of the world's music business, but hey, that's only my humble opinion! I'm talking of course of mister David Fonseca's band, or as himself would call them - "The Pipol Of The Greatest Band on Earth"!

So, this is just a collection of very simple portraits that I think illustrate them well on stage as well as off stage.

For starters we have mister Sérgio Nascimento, I honestly doubt you'll find a better drummer in this town!

Then we have mister Nuno Simões... Don't really know what to say about him, just that he is one of the greatest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet, and I am honoured to be able to call him my friend. :). He also ROCKS the Bass guitar like no one!

Ladies and Gentleman, RICARDO FIEL! The crazy electric guitar player. I can't describe it, you just have to listen to him, and YOU'LL SEE!

(Acho que a tua avó não vai gostar muito desta Jocão! A Kátia Margarida fez mal o seu trabalho! Sorry! Porcaria da contra luz! Da próxima fazemos alta sessão fotográfica intitulada "Project Granny"! Aí é que vai ser! eheheheheh)

And then comes mister Paulo Pereira. Very difficult to describe to you what he does, because he does it all! From synths to cavaquinho, he's your man!
Unfortunetly he's mostly hidden during the concerts so I never get a clean shot of him in action!

The beautiful and wonderful Rita Redshoes. I have talked about her several times in here before, so if you don't know her by now, shame on you!
She is the queen of the piano, and every once in a while pleasures us with her gorgeous voice.

(Bad focus of this one... It must be her beauty that disturbs me! eheheheh)

And last but not least, David Fonseca.

He is not the one in the hot spot today, so I'll just say that HE'S THE MAN! Hell yeah!

My first 'mini' expo!

So... I was asked to contribute some of my photos to an exhibition during the 'cultural week' at my Uni. Although I had (and still have...) many doubts, I ended up accepting the kind invitation.

These are the shots that were selected to appear in that mini expo. Tell me what you think, are they a good choice or bad choice and why?

Anyway, the photos will be exhibited from the 3rd to the 6th of December in the lobby of the Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da UL.

This is a first for me, so yey me! eheheheheh

A special thanks to Joana Cruz who kindly invited me and to my friends who always encourage me, in particular to Tiago Almeida for always being blunt and honest and advising me well.
